The campgrounds near Mi-Wuk Village are at slightly lower elevations than most of the other campgrounds along Sonora Pass, sometimes allowing them to open earlier in the season and to remain open later into the fall.Sugar Pine RV Park, a private campground, is open year-round.
Pick up a current Forest Service map of the Stanislaus National Forest at the Mi-Wuk Forest Service Station before venturing out to Sand Bar Flat Campground for your first time.
To reach this remote campground, drive 10 miles east of Mi-Wuk Village and turn left on the Spring Gap Road.
Follow the road down to the South Fork of the Stanislaus, across the river, and up the other side for a total of 10.1 miles.
Then turn left on a rough road and descend 2.8 miles to the river.
The Forest Services advises, "Road is not advisable for large RVs and trailers.
Road is steep, narrow and is not paved past Fraser Flat Campground." Sand Bar Flat Campground is usually open from May to October. You can hike from Sand Bar Flat Campground to Beardsley Reservoir, 6 miles upstream. Sugar Pine RV Park is a privately owned facility which offers RV sites, tent sites, and several cabins for rent.The Fraser Flat Campground is located in a picturesque grove of trees along the banks of the South Fork of the Stanislaus River. Drive 10 miles east of Mi-Wuk Village and turn left onto the Spring Gap Road. They are located only 15 minutes East of Sonora on Hwy. Sugar Pine RV Park offers a sun-heated swimming pool, restrooms, laundry facilities, playground, and group picnic area.It is a popular camp for OHV enthusiasts with many miles of OHV trails in the vicinity.Hull Creek Campground is on a first-come, first-served basis.Closed June 2013 to December 2013 due to PG&E construction.The Sand Bar Flat Campground is a long way out from Highway 108, situated in a beautiful setting on the Middle Fork of the Stanislaus River at an elevation of 3,000'.
